Linlithgow Palace endured a turbulent history, with both English and Scottish armies fighting fiercely over it throughout the centuries.

Once you have fully explored Linlithgow Palace, your journey will continue westward, passing the famous Kelpie Sculptures and on to one of Scotland’s most historic battlegrounds, Bannockburn. Arguably one of the most iconic and defining moments in the Scottish Wars of Independence, here is where Scotland’s Robert the Bruce led the Scots to a victory which ultimately played a significant role in regaining independence.

You will learn more about The Scottish Wars of Independence by visiting the Wallace Monument. With it essentially being a tower standing on the shoulder of Abbey Craig, this was built in remembrance of Scotland’s legendary hero, William Wallace.  Next on the list is a tour of one of Scotland’s most iconic castles, Stirling Castle. After revelling in its grandeur you will return back to the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh for the evening.

Powerfully emotive, drenched in history and Highland blood, this is where the Jacobite Rising came to a tragic end.

A visit to the ancient Cawdor Castle and Gardens is next on the list. Arguably most famous for its literary connection with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Cawdor Castle is a real historical gem that will give you an insight into what life was like in the 15th century.
